Design

Google went with flat sides and a matte back glass that resists fingerprints. It's a clean, understated look. The camera visor stretches across the full width of the phone — love it or hate it, it's distinctive. I think it looks better in person than in photos.

At 199g, it's noticeably lighter than both the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Galaxy S25 Ultra. That weight difference matters during long phone calls and one-handed use.

The build quality finally feels flagship-worthy. Previous Pixels sometimes felt like they were punching above their weight class. The 9 Pro feels like it belongs at the table with Apple and Samsung.

Video — This has traditionally been Pixel's weak point, and the 9 Pro closes the gap. 4K 60fps footage is stable, well-exposed, and handles transitions between lighting conditions smoothly. It's not quite iPhone-level in terms of dynamic range during video, but it's close. The gap has narrowed significantly. Magic Eraser and AI editing — Magic Eraser is genuinely useful for removing photobombers and distracting objects. Tensor G4 Performance

Let's be honest — the Tensor G4 is not competing with Snapdragon 8 Elite or A18 Pro in raw processing power. In benchmarks, it trails both. In daily use, you won't notice.

Apps open quickly. Multitasking is smooth. Social media scrolling is fluid. Where Tensor earns its keep is in AI tasks — photo processing, voice recognition, on-device translation. These are noticeably faster than competitors because Google designed the chip specifically for ML workloads.

Google is pushing Gemini hard on Pixel. The AI assistant replaces Google Assistant and handles contextual queries well. You can circle things on screen to search (borrowed from Samsung's feature, or the other way around — they co-developed it).

Gemini summarizes web pages, drafts messages, and answers questions using on-screen context. It's useful maybe 30% of the time. The other 70%, I fall back to regular Google Search because Gemini's answers aren't always accurate or complete.

Battery Life

4,700 mAh paired with Tensor G4's efficiency gives me consistent all-day battery life. I end most days at 25-30%. Heavy camera usage days drain faster — maybe 15% remaining by evening.

Charging speeds are unremarkable. 27W wired takes about 80 minutes for a full charge. Google is stubbornly slow to adopt faster charging, and it's one of the Pixel line's persistent weaknesses.
