EPFO SSA/Stenographer/APFC Recruitment Guide

SSA (Social Security Assistant) — The Main Entry Point

Eligibility

• Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized university
• Age: 18-27 years (relaxation: OBC +3, SC/ST +5, PwD +10)

UPSC EPFO Exam Pattern

The UPSC EPFO exam consists of:

Paper I — Recruitment Test (RT)

• 120 questions, 300 marks, 2 hours
• Covers: General English, Indian Freedom Struggle, Current Events, Indian Polity, Economy, Social Security in India, General Accounting Principles, Industrial Relations & Labour Laws, General Science, General Mental Ability

Paper II — Interview/Personality Test

• 75 marks

Final merit = RT marks + Interview marks.

What makes this unique is the heavy emphasis on Social Security, Labour Laws, and Industrial Relations — topics not commonly tested in other UPSC exams. Candidates with a background in HR, labour law, or social work have a natural advantage.

Stenographer Posts

EPFO Stenographers are recruited either through SSC Stenographer exam or through EPFO's own notification.

• Grade: Pay Level 4 (Grade D) or Level 6 (Grade C)
• Requirement: 12th pass + shorthand at 80/100 wpm
• The work involves taking dictation from officers, preparing correspondence, and maintaining files
• Career progression follows the same pattern as SSC Stenographers — Grade D → C → PA → PS
