The Border Security Force guards India's borders with Pakistan (3,323 km) and Bangladesh (4,156 km) — making it one of the world's largest border guarding forces. Constable GD Entry
SSC conducts this exam centrally for all CAPFs. Vacancies for BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NIA, SSF, and Rifleman (Assam Rifles) are all released together.
Eligibility:- 10th pass (Matriculation equivalent) from a recognised board
- Age: 18–23 years

The exam is available in both Hindi and English. Questions are generally 10th standard level — but the competition is intense. Cutoffs for general category in BSF often exceed 75–80% given the number of applicants.
Sub Inspector (GD) via SSC CPO
This is the path for graduates who want to join BSF at a supervisory level directly.
Eligibility:- Any graduation from a recognised university
- Age: 20–25 years (with usual category relaxations)
- Paper I (CBT): 200 questions, 200 marks, 2 hours — covers General Intelligence, General Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude, English
- Physical Standard Test (PST) — Height, weight, chest (same standards as GD constable but enforced strictly)
- Physical Endurance Test (PET):
- Paper II (English): 200 marks, 2 hours — grammar, comprehension, writing

Specialist BSF Entries
Air Wing — BSF operates Mi-17 helicopters, Avro aircraft, and UAVs. Pilots join through deputation from Indian Air Force and Army Aviation. Ground technical staff for air wing are recruited directly. Water Wing (Riverine) — Guards rivers and coastal areas, particularly in the Sundarbans, major river borders with Bangladesh, and inland waterways. Boatmen and related posts recruited directly. Dog Squad — BSF has specialised dog squads for detection (drugs, explosives). Handlers are trained post-joining. Signal Corps — Communication specialists within BSF.
