The IBPS PO (Probationary Officer) exam is conducted in two stages — Prelims and Mains — and you need a separate admit card for each. IBPS is generally more efficient than SSC when it comes to admit card releases, but there are still issues candidates face every cycle. Let me walk you through the entire process.

IBPS PO Admit Card Release Timeline

StageTypical ReleaseBefore Exam
Prelims Admit Card10-15 days before PrelimsOctober
Mains Admit Card10-15 days before MainsNovember-December
Interview Call Letter7-10 days before InterviewJanuary-March
IBPS sends an email notification to your registered email address when the admit card is available. However, do not rely solely on the email — sometimes it lands in spam, or IBPS sends it late. Check the website proactively.

How to Download IBPS PO Admit Card

Step 1: Go to ibps.in Step 2: Look for the admit card link on the homepage. IBPS usually places it in the scrolling ticker or under "Click here for Call Letters" section. Step 3: Click on the appropriate link — "CRP PO/MT-[Roman numeral] Preliminary Examination Call Letter" for Prelims, or the corresponding Mains link. Step 4: Enter your credentials:
  • Registration Number / Roll Number
  • Date of Birth (DD/MM/YY format)
  • Or Password (if you set one during registration)
Step 5: Your admit card/call letter will appear on screen Step 6: Verify all details Step 7: Download and print (at least 2-3 copies)

The "Call Letter" vs "Admit Card" Confusion

IBPS officially calls it a "Call Letter," not an "Admit Card." Both terms refer to the same document. When searching on the IBPS website, look for "Call Letter" or "Online Preliminary Exam Call Letter" rather than "Admit Card."

Prelims vs Mains: Key Differences

Prelims

  • Duration: 60 minutes (20 minutes per section with sectional timing)
  • Sections: English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability
  • Mode: Online (Computer Based Test)
  • Exam timing: Multiple shifts across several days

Mains

  • Duration: 3 hours + 30 minutes (Descriptive Paper)
  • Sections: Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, English Language, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/Economy/Banking Awareness + Descriptive English
  • Mode: Online (CBT) + Descriptive paper on computer
  • Usually single or two-shift exam
Your Mains admit card will show a different centre and timing than Prelims. Do not assume they are the same.

Photo and Document Requirements at the Centre

IBPS has very specific requirements that candidates sometimes overlook:

At the exam centre, you must carry:
  1. Admit Card printout with clear photo and signature
  2. Original photo ID proof — must be the same ID mentioned in your application. IBPS is strict about this. If you mentioned Aadhaar, carry Aadhaar. If you mentioned Passport, carry Passport.
  3. Photocopy of the photo ID — self-attested
  4. Two passport-size photographs — same as the one uploaded during application, with your name and Registration Number written on the back
  5. System-generated printout of the application form (this is an IBPS-specific requirement that many candidates forget)

The Application Form Printout

When you submitted your IBPS PO application, there was an option to download/print the completed form. If you did not do it then, log in to ibps.in and download it now. Some centres ask for it during verification.

Handling Common Issues

IBPS sometimes releases admit cards in batches — not all exam dates get the link simultaneously. If your exam date is later in the schedule, your admit card may appear a day or two after the first batch. Check again after 24 hours.

"Photo is blurred or missing"

IBPS has a "Photo and Signature" re-upload window that opens before some exam cycles. If you missed it, carry extra photographs to the centre. The invigilator will paste them on the attendance sheet.

"Exam centre is too far"

IBPS allots centres within your chosen exam city, but the specific venue can be anywhere within city limits. Suburban centres are common, especially in metros like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore. Plan your travel accounting for peak-hour traffic.

"My registration number is not working"

Check if you are entering the correct format. IBPS Registration Numbers follow a specific pattern. Also verify that your application was successfully submitted and payment was completed. Incomplete applications do not generate admit cards.

"Forgot password"

Use the "Forgot Password" link on the login page. IBPS sends a reset link to your registered email and mobile number. If your registered email/phone has changed, contact IBPS directly — they have a helpline number listed on the Contact Us page.

MandatoryAdmit card, original ID, ID photocopy, extra photos, application printout
RecommendedTransparent water bottle, analog watch, pen
ProhibitedMobile phone, calculator, electronic devices, bags, books

Arrival and Verification

Arrive at least 60-90 minutes before the exam time printed on your admit card. The process at IBPS centres:

  1. Gate verification: Admit card and ID checked at the gate
  2. Frisking: Security check at the entrance
  3. Registration desk: Your attendance is marked, photo verified
  4. Lab allocation: You are directed to your computer workstation
  5. System login: You log in using the credentials provided at the workstation

During the Exam

IBPS PO Prelims has strict sectional timing — you cannot go back to a previous section once the timer for that section expires. This is different from SSC where you can navigate freely between sections.

SectionTimeQuestions
English Language20 minutes30
Quantitative Aptitude20 minutes35
Reasoning Ability20 minutes35
Manage your time within each section carefully. There is no going back.

After the Exam

Do not discard your admit card after the Prelims. If you qualify for Mains, you will need the Registration Number and Roll Number to:

  • Download your Mains admit card

  • Check your Prelims scorecard

  • Complete the Mains application (if applicable)

Special Provisions

PwD candidates: Extra time is allotted as per government norms (usually 20 minutes per hour). Your admit card will mention the extra time. If it does not, contact IBPS before exam day. Scribes: If you are eligible for a scribe, the scribe's details must be submitted to IBPS before the admit card download window. The admit card will mention scribe provision. Carry the scribe's ID proof along with yours.

Staying Updated

IBPS PO admit card links, centre-wise updates, and last-minute changes are tracked on sarkarinaukri.in. Bookmark the page and check it regularly during the admit card release window. IBPS sometimes changes exam centres or shifts at the last minute, and the revised admit card must be downloaded separately.

The admit card is just the beginning of exam day logistics. Prepare your documents the night before, plan your route, get adequate sleep, and walk into that centre with confidence.
