QR Codes for Weddings — RSVP, Directions, Photos, and Registry

How to use QR codes on wedding invitations, table settings, and at the venue. Covers RSVP, directions, photo sharing, gift registry, and Spotify playlists.

My friend spent $3,200 on wedding invitations in 2024. Calligraphy, letterpress, hand-assembled. Beautiful. She also included a separate card with a URL for RSVPs that was 47 characters long. The response rate on that card was abysmal — people couldn't be bothered to type it.

A QR code would have cost nothing extra and solved the problem completely.

On the Invitation: RSVP

This is the highest-value use case. A QR code on the RSVP card (or on the invitation itself) that links directly to your online RSVP form.

What to encode:

  • Link to your wedding website RSVP page (The Knot, Zola, Joy, or your own site)
  • A Google Form for a simpler DIY approach
  • A pre-addressed email link with subject line pre-filled
Keep the code at 2.5-3cm minimum. Most invitation envelopes can accommodate this on an insert card.

Design tip: match the QR code colors to your wedding palette. QRMax lets you customize dot styles, colors, and even add a monogram in the center. A sage green QR code on cream card stock looks intentional, not tech-bro.

Directions and Venue Details

Guests always need three things: where to park, which entrance to use, and what time doors open. A QR code on the invitation enclosure card can link to:

  • Google Maps pin for the venue (with parking lot highlighted)
  • A custom page with day-of logistics (ceremony time, reception time, dress code)
  • Hotel block booking link for out-of-town guests
This saves you from answering the same 50 text messages the week before the wedding.

At the Venue: Photo Sharing

This one has become nearly universal at weddings. A framed QR code at each table or at the entrance that links to a shared Google Photos album, iCloud shared album, or a service like Guest Pigeon.

Guests scan, their photos automatically upload. By the end of the night, you have 200+ candid photos from every angle, every moment, without hiring a second photographer.

Some couples display the QR code on a large print next to the guest book:

"Capture the moment. Scan to share your photos with us."

Frame it nicely. Print the code at 8-10cm for easy scanning from a few feet away.

Gift Registry

A QR code on the invitation insert linking to your registry saves guests from:

  1. Guessing which registry platform you're on
  2. Typing a URL on their phone
  3. Searching for your names across multiple sites
If you have registries on multiple platforms (Amazon, Crate & Barrel, Zola), link to your wedding website's registry page that lists all of them.

Table Settings and Place Cards

Getting creative with table-level QR codes:

  • Menu card QR — links to the full menu with allergen information and ingredient sourcing
  • Place card QR — each guest's place card has a code linking to a personal note from the couple ("We're so glad you're here, Aunt Martha. You were the first person to welcome Sarah to the family.")
  • Table number QR — links to a trivia quiz about the couple for entertainment during cocktail hour
The personal note QR code takes more effort but consistently makes people emotional. You'd need the bulk QR generator to create unique codes for each guest.

Spotify Playlist

Put a QR code on the bar or DJ table linking to the wedding playlist on Spotify. Guests can follow along, add song requests (if you're brave), or save the playlist to relive the night later.

Generate a Spotify link QR code at QRMax — just paste the Spotify playlist URL.

Design Considerations

Weddings are aesthetic events. A default black-and-white QR code on an elegant invitation feels jarring. Solutions:

ApproachBest For
Monochrome (dark color on light)Formal invitations. Navy, forest green, burgundy on cream.
Branded with monogramModern/minimal invitations. Your initials as the center logo.
Dot-style modulesSofter, less industrial appearance
Embedded in a floral borderWhen the code needs to blend with illustration-heavy design
Always maintain at least 4:1 contrast ratio. Pastel on pastel won't scan.

Practical Tips

  • Test on multiple devices before committing to 150 printed invitations
  • Use static QR codes for RSVP links and directions — they never expire and don't depend on a third-party service staying online
  • Use dynamic QR codes for photo sharing links — if you change the album URL, you can update it without reprinting
  • Print as SVG-sourced — ask your printer for vector output so the code stays sharp at any size
  • Include a tiny text URL as backup below the QR code for the one uncle who refuses to scan things
