Dynamic QR codes are the reason QR platforms charge money. Static codes are essentially free to generate — the data is in the pattern, no server involved. Dynamic codes route through a redirect server, which means hosting, analytics, and ongoing costs for the provider.

So which dynamic QR service gives you the best value? I evaluated four platforms that take dynamic QR seriously.

What Makes Dynamic Codes Worth Paying For

Before the comparison, a quick reality check on what dynamic codes actually give you:

  • Editable destination. Change where the code points without reprinting.
  • Scan analytics. Who scanned, when, where, on what device.
  • Shorter QR pattern. Dynamic codes encode a short redirect URL, making the QR pattern simpler and more scannable at small sizes.
  • Expiration control. Set codes to expire after a date or scan count.
If you don't need any of these, save your money and use static codes.

The Four Contenders

QRMax

Pricing: Free tier includes 5 dynamic codes. Paid plans start low for 50+ codes. Analytics depth: Full — scans, unique scans, country, city, device, OS, browser, time series. Real-time scan feed. Scan limits: No per-code scan limit on any plan. Some competitors cap scans per code per month. Standout feature: No scan caps. This matters more than people think. If you put a dynamic code on a popular product and it gets 50,000 scans in a month, you don't want a platform throttling or charging overage fees.

Beaconstac

Pricing: Lite $5/month (5 codes), Starter $15/month (50 codes), Pro $49/month (250 codes). Analytics depth: Good — scans, geography, device, time. GPS-level location on higher plans. Scan limits: Varies by plan. Lite caps at 500 scans/month across all codes. Pro allows 50,000. Standout feature: GPS-accurate location tracking (not just IP-based) on Pro and Enterprise plans. If you need to know which specific store location a scan came from, this is valuable.

QR Tiger

Pricing: Regular $7/month (3 dynamic codes), Advanced $16/month (10 codes), Premium $37/month (50 codes). Analytics depth: Moderate — total scans, geography, device type. No real-time feed. Data updates every few hours. Scan limits: Regular caps at 500 scans/code/year. Yes, per year. That's roughly 42 scans per month per code. The Advanced plan raises this to 5,000/code/year. Standout feature: Multi-URL codes that redirect to different destinations based on the scanner's country. Useful for international campaigns.

Uniqode (formerly Beaconstac's Competitor)

Pricing: Starter $5/month (5 codes), Pro $15/month (50 codes), Business $39/month (250 codes). Analytics depth: Good — similar to Beaconstac. Includes UTM tracking integration. Scan limits: 10,000 total scans/month on Starter. 100,000 on Pro. Reasonable limits but they exist. Standout feature: Built-in landing page builder with form collection. You can gate content behind an email capture form within the QR flow.

My Honest Rankings

Best overall value: QRMax. The no-scan-cap policy alone puts it ahead for high-traffic codes. The free tier is the most generous. Best for location intelligence: Beaconstac. GPS-level tracking is a real differentiator for retail and hospitality. Best for international campaigns: QR Tiger. Country-based redirect routing is a unique feature. Best for lead generation: Uniqode. The built-in landing page and form builder creates a self-contained funnel.

One Thing Nobody Tells You

Dynamic QR codes create vendor lock-in. Once you print a code that routes through qrmax.app/redirect/abc123, you're dependent on that service staying online. If the platform shuts down or you stop paying, your printed codes die.

Before committing to any platform, check their uptime history and how long they've been in business. QR Tiger has been around since 2018. Beaconstac since 2016. QRMax is newer but hasn't had downtime issues. Uniqode rebranded from something else, which is worth noting.

Most platforms also offer custom domain redirects on paid plans, which reduces lock-in somewhat — if you own the redirect domain, you can point it elsewhere if needed.
