Udaipur City (UDZ) Station — Lake City Railway Guide
Guide to Udaipur City station — Lake Palace access, 5 platforms, auto fares, Rajasthan's most romantic city, food, and travel tips for tourists.
Udaipur City — station code UDZ — serves Rajasthan's most picturesque city, often called the "Venice of the East" or the "City of Lakes." The station is the rail gateway for tourists heading to Lake Pichola, the City Palace, and the stunning havelis that line Udaipur's waterways.
UDZ is a terminus station at the end of the broad gauge line from Ahmedabad and Chittorgarh. It's not on a mainline trunk route, which means fewer trains compared to Jaipur or Jodhpur, but the ones that run are well-patronized.
Station Layout
UDZ has 5 platforms. As a terminus, all trains end here — the tracks simply stop.

Tip 1: Udaipur is a terminus, so book early. Fewer trains mean higher demand per train. The Chetak and Mewar Express (both to Delhi) and the Ahmedabad train fill up fast, especially October–March. Tip 2: The old city and Lake Pichola area is 3 km from the station. An auto or taxi is the practical option. The lakeside area is a maze of narrow lanes best explored on foot once you arrive. Tip 3: Udaipur is a fantastic base for exploring southern Rajasthan. Day trips to Chittorgarh Fort (115 km), Kumbhalgarh Fort (85 km), Nathdwara temple (48 km), and Ranakpur Jain temples (90 km) are all doable. Tip 4: Boat rides on Lake Pichola (with the Lake Palace Hotel in the middle) are the quintessential Udaipur experience. Boats leave from the City Palace complex. ₹400–800 per person depending on timing (sunset rides cost more). Tip 5: Winter evenings (November-February) in Udaipur are cool and pleasant — perfect for lakeside dining. Summer (April-June) is hot but manageable since you're near water.Check IndianRail.app for train availability and live status.
