Indian Bank and SBI ATMs near the station entrance. Tip 1: Salem is a junction — multiple routes converge here. Chennai trains come from the east, Coimbatore from the west, Bangalore from the north, and Trichy/Madurai from the south. Know which route your train is on. Tip 2: Salem is the nearest junction station to Yercaud hill station. Yercaud is about 30 km (1 hour by road) and makes for an excellent weekend trip from Salem. Shared taxis leave from near the bus stand. Tip 3: Trains from Salem to Bangalore take about 4–5 hours and run through Dharmapuri and Hosur. The scenic section through the Eastern Ghats is beautiful. Tip 4: Salem summers are hot (38–40°C in April-May). Use the waiting room if you have time to kill.
