Jaipur Junction — station code JP — is the main railway station for Rajasthan's capital and the gateway for millions of tourists visiting the Pink City each year. The station sits right in the heart of the city, about 2 km from the walled old city and its famous landmarks.

With only 6 platforms, Jaipur Junction is compact compared to metropolitan stations. But it punches well above its size — this is one of the busiest stations on the North Western Railway, connecting Jaipur to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and destinations across Rajasthan.

The main entrance faces Station Road, with the pink-painted station building facing MI Road direction. There's a rear entrance on the western side, closer to platforms 5–6.

Getting To and From Jaipur Junction

By Metro

Jaipur Metro's Pink Line has a station called "Railway Station" — it's a 2-minute walk from the main entrance. The metro runs to Mansarovar on one end and Badi Chaupar (old city) on the other. Fares are ₹7–20. This is the easiest way to reach the walled city from the station.

By Auto

Prepaid auto stand is right outside the main entrance. Jaipur autos run on meter (some do, some don't), so the prepaid stand is your best bet. Rates:
  • JP to Hawa Mahal: ₹40–60
  • JP to Amber Fort: ₹150–200
  • JP to Jaipur Airport: ₹250–350
  • JP to Ajmer (by cab): ₹1500–2000

By Bus

RSRTC buses stop on Station Road. City bus routes connect to major parts of Jaipur. The Sindhi Camp Bus Stand (central bus terminal) is 1 km from the station — walkable, or ₹20 by auto.

By Cab

Ola and Uber are available. Pickup from Station Road outside the main entrance.

Facilities

Waiting Rooms

AC waiting room on the first floor — confirmed ticket for the day required. Upper-class waiting room in the same building. General waiting hall on the ground floor. During tourist season (October–March), the waiting rooms fill up, so arrive with buffer time.

Food

Jaipur's station food is decent:
  • Food court (main concourse): Rajasthani thali, dal-baati-churma, North Indian basics — ₹80–120
  • Platform stalls: Chai, pakoras, sandwiches, cold drinks
  • Chai: The kulhad chai (clay cup chai) from platform vendors is a Rajasthan specialty — ₹10
Outside the station, MI Road has excellent restaurants. LMB (Laxmi Mishthan Bhandar) is a 10-minute auto ride and serves the best Rajasthani thali in the city. Rawat Mishthan Bhandar on Station Road itself is famous for pyaaz kachori — genuinely worth a stop before you board.

WiFi

RailWire WiFi available. Standard OTP verification. Good coverage across all 6 platforms — the station is small enough that WiFi reaches everywhere.

ATMs

SBI, PNB, and HDFC ATMs inside the station. More options on Station Road.

Medical

First aid center near platform 1. SMS Hospital is 3 km away. Tip 1: Jaipur Junction is a manageable station. Six platforms mean you're never far from your train. Even so, check coach position charts — some trains here have complex coach compositions. Tip 2: Tourist season (October–March) brings heavy traffic. Auto fares spike, and the station gets crowded. Book retiring rooms and pre-plan transport. Tip 3: If you're heading to Amber Fort or Nahargarh, arrange transport from the station itself. You can hire a full-day auto or cab from the prepaid stands. Rates for a full day auto: ₹800–1000. Tip 4: Jaipur gets extremely hot in summer (April–June), with temperatures hitting 45°C+. The platforms are partially covered but still uncomfortable. Use the AC waiting room. Tip 5: Many Rajasthan trains run on meter gauge or have been recently converted to broad gauge. Some smaller stations on these routes have limited facilities. If you're connecting from JP to places like Shekhawati, Bikaner, or Barmer, be prepared for less polished stations at the other end.

Use IndianRail.app to check real-time train positions before heading to the platform — especially useful for late-night arrivals.

Jaipur Junction vs Gandhinagar Jaipur

Some trains use Gandhinagar Jaipur (GGC) station, which is 4 km away on the Delhi-Jaipur route. If your ticket says GGC, you need that station, not JP. An auto between them costs ₹60–80.

Cloak Room

Near platform 1. Open 6 AM–10 PM. ₹30 per bag. Valid ticket required. Useful for day-trip sightseeing before an evening train.

Retiring Rooms

Available on the first floor. AC rooms ₹700–900 for 12 hours. Book through IRCTC. During peak tourist season, these get booked weeks in advance.

Nearby Landmarks

  • Hawa Mahal: 3 km, ₹40 auto
  • City Palace: 3 km, ₹50 auto
  • Jantar Mantar: 3 km, adjacent to City Palace
  • Albert Hall Museum: 1.5 km, walking distance through Ram Niwas Garden
  • Amber Fort: 11 km, ₹150 auto
  • Nahargarh Fort: 6 km (hilltop, cab recommended)
