Getting To and From the Station

By Auto-Rickshaw

Auto-rickshaws are the most common way to get to/from the station:

  • Sector 17 (main market): ₹30-50

  • Sector 22 (hotels area): ₹50-80

  • Sector 35 (restaurants hub): ₹70-100

  • ISBT (Bus Terminal, Sector 17): ₹20-30 (it's very close)

  • Chandigarh Airport: ₹200-300

Use the prepaid auto counter outside the station exit. It prevents fare haggling and overcharging, which is less of an issue in Chandigarh than other cities but still happens.

By City Bus

CTU (Chandigarh Transport Undertaking) buses stop outside the station. Routes connect to most sectors. Fare: ₹10-20. Clean buses (Chandigarh standard).

By Taxi/Cab

Ola and Uber work well in Chandigarh:

  • Station to Sector 17: ₹80-120

  • Station to Panchkula: ₹150-250

  • Station to Mohali: ₹150-250

  • Station to Chandigarh Airport: ₹300-500

By Foot

If your hotel is in Sector 17 or 22, you can genuinely walk from the station. Chandigarh's grid layout and tree-lined streets make walking pleasant (except in peak summer).

Tips for Chandigarh Station

Arrive 20-30 minutes early. The station is compact, so you don't need the 45-60 minutes recommended for larger stations like New Delhi or Howrah. The station is cleaner than average. Chandigarh is India's cleanest city, and the station reflects this. But don't test it during festival season — crowds overwhelm any cleaning effort. Winter travel (December-January): Chandigarh gets cold (3-8°C at night). If your train departs late at night or early morning, the platform wait can be chilly. Use the waiting room. Summer (May-June): Temperatures hit 42-45°C. Ensure you have water and use the AC waiting room if possible. For Shimla travelers: Don't book a tight connection between your arrival at Chandigarh and the Kalka-Shimla toy train. Allow at least 2 hours buffer for potential delays on your incoming train. For Manali/Dharamshala travelers: There's no train to Manali or Dharamshala. Take a bus from Chandigarh ISBT (Sector 17 or Sector 43). Volvo and ordinary buses run throughout the day.

Check your train schedule and platform on indianrail.app before heading to the station. Chandigarh's compact station makes for a hassle-free start to your journey — one of the more pleasant railway experiences in North India.
