Tip 1: The Golden Temple is walking distance from the station — about 2 km through the old city. You can walk or take a ₹30 auto. The temple is open 24 hours and there's no entry fee. Remove shoes and cover your head before entering. Free head coverings are available at the entrance. Tip 2: The Wagah Border ceremony happens every evening before sunset. It's 28 km from Amritsar. Take a shared taxi or auto from the city (₹100–150 per person, shared). Arrive at least 1 hour before the ceremony for good seating. The ceremony is free. Tip 3: Jallianwala Bagh is just 200 meters from the Golden Temple. Visit both in a single trip. The memorial to the 1919 massacre is deeply moving. Tip 4: Amritsar in summer (May-June) is hot (42°C+) but the Golden Temple's marble and the sarovar (sacred pool) keep the temple complex relatively cool. Winter evenings (December-January) can be cold — carry a jacket. Tip 5: The Vande Bharat and Shatabdi to Delhi are the fastest options — about 5.5 and 6 hours respectively. Book in advance; these trains are popular.Check IndianRail.app for train running status.
