Trains to Dwarka Temple — From Ahmedabad and Mumbai
How to reach Dwarka Dwarkadhish Temple by train. Best trains from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Mumbai with fares, timings, temple darshan, and Bet Dwarka tips.
Dwarka, on the westernmost tip of Gujarat's Saurashtra coast, is one of the four Char Dham and one of the seven most ancient cities in India (Sapta Puri). The Dwarkadhish Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna, stands where mythology says Krishna's golden city once stood. Getting here by train involves crossing the Saurashtra peninsula — a journey through Gujarat's arid but characterful landscape.

Dwarka Station
Dwarka (DWK) is a small station at the edge of the town. The Dwarkadhish Temple is about 1 km away — walkable along the main bazaar road. Autos and cycle rickshaws charge ₹20-50.
Some trains continue to Okha, 30 km beyond Dwarka. Okha is the port for Bet Dwarka (an island associated with Krishna's residence). If you're visiting Bet Dwarka, traveling to Okha directly might be more convenient.
Dwarkadhish Temple
The five-story temple with its 78-meter tall spire (shikhar) is the main shrine. It's believed to have been originally established by Krishna's grandson Vajranabha over 2,500 years ago, though the current structure is medieval.
Darshan timings: 6:30 AM to 1 PM, 5 PM to 9 PM. The morning aarti at 6:30 AM is special. Evening aarti: The Sandhya Aarti at sunset is atmospheric, with the temple lit up and the Arabian Sea as backdrop. Dress code: Conservative. Remove shoes and cover head.Bet Dwarka
Bet Dwarka (also called Shankhodhar) is an island 30 km from Dwarka, reached by boat from Okha port. It's considered the actual residence of Krishna and has an ancient temple. The boat ride across the Gulf of Kutch takes about 30 minutes.
To reach: Train or bus to Okha → walk to Okha jetty → boat to Bet Dwarka (₹20-50, every 15-20 minutes). The entire excursion takes 3-4 hours from Dwarka.
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga
The Nageshwar Temple, housing one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, is 17 km from Dwarka. A shared auto or taxi (₹200-300 return) covers the visit. Most Dwarka pilgrims include Nageshwar in their itinerary.
Somnath Connection
Many Char Dham pilgrims combine Dwarka with Somnath (another Jyotirlinga, 230 km south). Trains from Dwarka to Somnath via Junagadh take about 6-7 hours. Alternatively, buses run directly (5 hours, ₹200-400).
The Dwarka-Somnath-Porbandar (Gandhi's birthplace) circuit is a popular Gujarat pilgrimage-cum-heritage route. Allow 4-5 days for the complete circuit.
Accommodation
Dwarka has dharamshalas (₹100-500) run by the temple trust and various community organizations. Private hotels range from ₹500 to ₹3,000. During Janmashtami (August/September) and Holi, accommodation is scarce — book well ahead.
Food
Strictly vegetarian town. Gujarati thali restaurants serve wholesome meals for ₹100-200. The coastal location means no seafood despite being a fishing port (the town's religious character takes precedence).
Best Season
October to March — pleasant weather. Gujarat coast is hot April-June (40°C+). Monsoon brings rain but the temple remains open. Janmashtami (August/September) is the biggest festival but also the most crowded.
