The Coupe Experience

Arrival: The coach attendant leads you to your coupe. Bedding is already laid out. The cabin smells clean (in most cases). Privacy: Close the door and it's your room. Change clothes, have a private conversation, let the kids run around within the cabin, eat without anyone watching. For families and couples, this level of privacy is unmatched on Indian trains. Security: The lockable door means you can leave valuables in the cabin while going to the toilet. In other classes, you'd worry about unattended bags. Here, just lock the door. The most reliable way to get a full coupe: book 4 people on one PNR in 1A. The system groups them in one coupe.

If you're 2 people and want the entire coupe, you can:

• Book 4 berths (paying for 4) and have 2 empty — expensive but guarantees privacy


• Book normally for 2 and hope you get a 2-berth cabin

Request at Booking Counter

At the physical counter, you can specifically request a coupe allocation. The booking clerk has some discretion in berth assignment.
