When Correction Gets Rejected
Common rejection reasons:
- Document doesn't support the change: For example, using a utility bill to correct your name won't work. You need an identity document.
- Mismatch between form and document: The corrected name must be character-for-character identical to the supporting document.
- Photo doesn't meet specifications: White background, front-facing, recent passport-size. No selfies.
- Signature scan is unclear: Sign with dark ink on plain white paper. The signature should be within the box boundaries.
Special Scenarios
Name Change After Marriage
Use your marriage certificate as the supporting document. The new name should include your spouse's surname if that's how the marriage certificate records it.
Correcting a Minor's PAN
The parent/guardian who originally applied must submit the correction request. The minor's birth certificate or school certificate serves as the supporting document.
Company/Firm PAN Correction
Business entities use the same portal but need to provide the certificate of incorporation, partnership deed, or trust deed as supporting documents.
