How to Measure Your Foot
- Stand on paper against a wall (heel touching wall)
- Mark the longest toe with a pen
- Measure the distance from the wall to the mark in cm
- Measure both feet — most people have one foot slightly larger
- Use the larger measurement for sizing
- Measure in the evening — feet swell during the day and are largest by evening
Brand Variation
Even within the same size system, brands vary:
| Brand | Runs | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Nike | Slightly small | Size up by 0.5 |
| Adidas | True to size | Stick with your size |
| Puma | True to size | Stick with your size |
| Converse | Runs large | Size down by 0.5–1 |
| Vans | True to slightly large | Stick or size down 0.5 |
| New Balance | Varies by model | Try on or check model-specific guides |
| Woodland | True to size (Indian sizing) | Stick with your size |
| Bata | True to size (Indian sizing) | Stick with your size |
Width Sizing
Shoe width is often overlooked:
| Width Code | Description | Typical Foot Type |
|---|---|---|
| B (Women) / D (Men) | Standard/Medium | Most people |
| D (Women) / E or EE (Men) | Wide | Wide feet |
| 2E or 4E (Men) | Extra wide | Very wide feet |
| AA or N | Narrow | Narrow feet |
Why is Indian shoe size the same as US for men?
Indian men's shoe sizes follow the UK sizing convention historically, but many modern Indian brands have adopted US sizing. Always check — some brands use UK, others use US. The safest approach is measuring your foot in cm and converting.
How much toe room should I have?
About 1 cm (roughly a thumb's width) between your longest toe and the front of the shoe. Too tight causes blisters and nail problems; too loose causes sliding and instability.
Do shoe sizes change with age?
Yes. Feet can grow slightly (especially wider) with age, weight gain, and pregnancy. Measure your feet annually rather than assuming your size from 10 years ago.
