Fahrenheit to Celsius Converter — Temperature Reference Table
Convert Fahrenheit to Celsius with the exact formula and a quick reference table for weather, cooking, body temp, and oven temperatures.
The Fahrenheit-to-Celsius conversion is one of those formulas that's awkward enough that most people just look it up. That's fine — use CalcHub's temperature converter for any value, or memorize a few landmark temperatures from the table below.
The Formula
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
Or equivalently:
°C = (°F − 32) ÷ 1.8
Reverse (Celsius to Fahrenheit):
°F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
°F = (°C × 1.8) + 32
Mental shortcut: subtract 30, then halve it. Not exact, but close enough for weather conversations. Example: 80°F → 80-30=50, 50÷2=25°C (actual answer is 26.7°C).

Oven Temperature Conversions
US and UK recipes often differ — American recipes use Fahrenheit ovens, British recipes commonly use Celsius or gas marks.
| °F | °C | Gas Mark | Description |

| 275 | 135 | 1 | Very low |
| 300 | 150 | 2 | Low |
| 325 | 165 | 3 | Moderately low |
| 350 | 175 | 4 | Moderate |
| 375 | 190 | 5 | Moderately hot |
| 400 | 200 | 6 | Hot |
| 425 | 220 | 7 | Hot |
| 450 | 230 | 8 | Very hot |
| 475 | 245 | 9 | Extremely hot |
Meat Cooking Temperatures
Food safety guidelines specify internal temperatures in °F for US audiences and °C internationally.
| Meat | Safe Internal Temp (°F) | Safe Internal Temp (°C) |
|---|---|---|
| Chicken (whole) | 165°F | 74°C |
| Ground beef | 160°F | 71°C |
| Pork (chops, roast) | 145°F | 63°C |
| Fish | 145°F | 63°C |
| Steak (medium) | 140–145°F | 60–63°C |
| Steak (well done) | 160°F+ | 71°C+ |
Weather Forecast Quick Read
If you're traveling to the US and checking a weather app in Fahrenheit:
| Forecast | What to Wear |
|---|---|
| Below 32°F (0°C) | Heavy coat, gloves |
| 32–50°F (0–10°C) | Winter jacket |
| 50–65°F (10–18°C) | Light jacket |
| 65–80°F (18–27°C) | Comfortable, maybe a layer |
| 80–95°F (27–35°C) | Light clothing, stay hydrated |
| Above 95°F (35°C) | Limit sun exposure |
What is 72°F in Celsius?
(72 - 32) × 5/9 = 40 × 0.5556 = 22.2°C. This is a commonly cited "perfect room temperature."
What temperature is the same in both Fahrenheit and Celsius?
-40°. The only point where the two scales intersect. At -40, F and C are identical. Is body temperature 98.6°F or 37°C?
Both — they're the same temperature. 98.6°F converts to exactly 37°C. Modern research suggests average human body temperature is closer to 36.6°C (97.9°F), but 37°C / 98.6°F remains the medical textbook standard.
