Where Lorem Ipsum Comes From
The standard Lorem Ipsum text is derived from a work by Cicero (De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum, 45 BC) — specifically a scrambled and modified section of Book 1. The original passage discusses the theory of ethics; the modern Lorem Ipsum version is deliberately mangled so it doesn't make grammatical sense (preventing people from actually reading it during design review).
The phrase "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" is a fragment of "Dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet" — a quote about pain.
