How the Algorithm Works

Here's the actual step-by-step method — the one everyone learned in school:

1. Write both names in full (usually first names only, but variations exist)
2. Cross out every letter that appears in both names — matched pairs cancel each other
3. Count the remaining uncrossed letters across both names combined
4. Use that count to eliminate letters from FLAMES one by one, counting around the circle repeatedly
5. Each time you reach a number, remove that letter — but keep counting from the next remaining letter
6. The last letter standing is your result

Example:

• Name 1: RAHUL → R, A, H, U, L
• Name 2: PRIYA → P, R, I, Y, A
• Common letters: R (×1), A (×1) — cross these out from both
• Remaining: H, U, L (from RAHUL) + P, I, Y (from PRIYA) = 6 letters

• Now counting in FLAME... continue until one letter remains
