EPF Calculator — Estimate Your Provident Fund Balance at Retirement
Calculate your EPF corpus at retirement with employee and employer contributions, current interest rate, and annual salary increments.
EPF (Employee Provident Fund) is often the largest retirement savings most salaried Indians accumulate — yet most people have no idea how much their PF balance will be worth when they retire. The CalcHub EPF Calculator projects your PF corpus based on your current salary, contribution rate, and expected increments.
How EPF Works
Every month, your employer deducts 12% of your basic salary + DA and deposits it into your EPF account. The employer also contributes 12%, but only 3.67% goes to EPF — the remaining 8.33% goes to EPS (Employee Pension Scheme).
| Component | Employee | Employer |
|---|---|---|
| EPF contribution | 12% of Basic + DA | 3.67% of Basic + DA |
| EPS contribution | — | 8.33% of Basic + DA (capped at ₹15,000 basic) |
| Total to EPF account | 12% | 3.67% |
EPF Accumulation Example
Assumptions: Basic + DA = ₹30,000/month, 10% annual salary increment, 8.25% EPF interest rate.| Year | Monthly Basic + DA | Monthly EPF (Employee + Employer) | Cumulative EPF Balance |

| 5 | ₹43,923 | ₹6,883 | ₹3,82,000 |
| 10 | ₹70,781 | ₹11,087 | ₹11,30,000 |
| 15 | ₹1,14,031 | ₹17,859 | ₹25,80,000 |
| 20 | ₹1,83,664 | ₹28,764 | ₹53,60,000 |

Voluntary Provident Fund (VPF)
You can contribute more than 12% through VPF — the excess earns the same 8.25% interest with the same tax benefits. It's essentially a guaranteed 8.25% tax-free return with government backing. For conservative investors, maximizing VPF before looking at other options is a smart move.
VPF limit: There's no maximum contribution limit, but interest is tax-free only on contributions up to ₹2.5 lakh/year (combined EPF + VPF employee contribution).Should I withdraw EPF when changing jobs?
No. Transfer it using Form 13 (online via EPFO portal). Withdrawing breaks the 5-year tax-free rule and you lose the compounding benefit. A ₹5 lakh EPF balance left to compound for 20 more years at 8.25% becomes ₹25 lakh. How do I check my EPF balance?
Four methods: (1) EPFO member portal (member.epfindia.gov.in), (2) UMANG app, (3) Give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile, (4) SMS: send "EPFOHO UAN" to 7738299899.
Is EPF mandatory?
Yes, for establishments with 20+ employees where the employee earns up to ₹15,000/month basic. Above ₹15,000 basic, it's technically voluntary but most employers enroll all employees regardless of salary.
