Dice Roller — Roll 1 to 100 Dice Online (D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20)
Free online dice roller for board games, RPGs, and classroom activities. Roll standard D6, D20, or any custom dice — single or multiple rolls with history.
Need to roll dice but don't have any? The CalcHub Dice Roller simulates fair dice rolls for board games, tabletop RPGs, classroom exercises, decision-making, or any situation where you need random numbers.

Multiple Dice Probabilities (2D6)
Two six-sided dice is the most common combination (Monopoly, Settlers of Catan, craps):
| Sum | Combinations | Probability |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 (1+1) | 2.78% |
| 3 | 2 | 5.56% |
| 4 | 3 | 8.33% |
| 5 | 4 | 11.11% |
| 6 | 5 | 13.89% |
| 7 | 6 | 16.67% (most likely) |
| 8 | 5 | 13.89% |
| 9 | 4 | 11.11% |
| 10 | 3 | 8.33% |
| 11 | 2 | 5.56% |
| 12 | 1 | 2.78% |
D20 Probability (Dungeons & Dragons)
Every number on a D20 has an equal 5% chance. For D&D players:
| Roll Needed | Probability of Success |
|---|---|
| 2+ (need anything but 1) | 95% |
| 5+ | 80% |
| 10+ | 55% |
| 11+ | 50% (coin flip) |
| 15+ | 30% |
| 18+ | 15% |
| 20 (natural 20) | 5% |
| Roll Needed | Normal | With Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| 11+ | 50% | 75% |
| 15+ | 30% | 51% |
| 20 | 5% | 9.75% |
Common Dice Notation
RPG players use standard notation:
| Notation | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1d6 | Roll one 6-sided die | 1–6 |
| 2d6 | Roll two 6-sided dice, sum them | 2–12 |
| 3d6 | Roll three 6-sided dice, sum them | 3–18 |
| 1d20+5 | Roll D20, add 5 to result | 6–25 |
| 4d6 drop lowest | Roll 4 D6, remove the lowest, sum rest | 3–18 (skewed high) |
| 2d10 (percentile) | Two D10s for 01–100 | 1–100 |
Uses Beyond Gaming
Classroom activities: Teachers use dice for random number generation in math exercises, probability lessons, and student selection. Decision making: Can't decide? Assign options to numbers and roll. It's surprisingly effective for breaking decision paralysis. Statistics education: Rolling physical or virtual dice is the best way to understand probability distributions, expected value, and the law of large numbers. Fitness: Random workout generators often use dice — roll a D6 for exercise type, D10 for reps. Party games: Truth or dare, drinking games, and ice-breaker activities frequently use dice. Are Online Dice Rolls Fair?
Yes — online dice rollers use pseudorandom number generators (PRNGs) that produce statistically uniform distributions. Over thousands of rolls, each face appears with equal probability. The CalcHub Dice Roller uses cryptographically seeded random generation for fairness.
Physical dice, ironically, can be less fair — manufacturing imperfections, worn edges, and loading can bias results. A well-made online roller is more consistently random than most physical dice.
What's the average roll for each dice type?
| Dice | Average Roll |
|---|---|
| D4 | 2.5 |
| D6 | 3.5 |
| D8 | 4.5 |
| D10 | 5.5 |
| D12 | 6.5 |
| D20 | 10.5 |
How do I generate D&D ability scores?
The standard method is 4d6 drop lowest: roll four D6, remove the lowest die, and sum the remaining three. This produces scores ranging from 3 to 18, with an average of ~12.24 (slightly above the 10.5 average of 3d6). Repeat six times for all abilities.
Can I use the dice roller for lottery numbers?
You can, but lottery numbers require true randomness across a specific range (not dice-shaped). Use the Random Number Generator instead — it lets you set any range.
